She steadfastly endures the burden of misfortunes, maintains a family, taking care of each relative.
The life of the peasant woman was broken by a tragedy that could take away all joy and hope: her husband died. In one village, four miles from the hut, the father of the deceased decides to dig a grave. Soon, an old acquaintance arrived - blessed Pakh, who condoled with the loss of the old man and widow. On the pine table lies the dead body of a man. Relatives mourn the deceased. Other people came to the funeral. The body is sent to Savrask, the author writes about his plight, because he provided the hosts with his labor. The cause of death was a severe cold, which the villagers treated only with folk remedies. Many are concerned about the further education of the children of the deceased.
Peasant Daria headed to the forest. The author describes the forest beauty in the winter. Daria is full of despair, chopping wood in the forest. A peasant woman, without a husband, has a very difficult time. The heroine reflects on the future of her children, also yearning for her husband. The father will not intercede for his son when he is taken into the soldiers, he will not help his wife either. Her legs froze in the forest, making it difficult for her to walk. Later, when the woman’s prayers were heard, her legs were again operational. But the widow again began to chop wood, and her legs became much worse. Suddenly, voivode Moroz sagged over the heroine, who praised his unique abilities and offered a helping hand to the victim. Morozko plunged the beauty into eternal sleep, freezing her. A woman dreams about the summer she spends with her husband and children.
