: The meek bachelor goes on a pleasure trip and finds a place that he had long dreamed of. Fellow travelers do not allow him to stay, but the bachelor persuades his boss and returns there forever.
Vasily Ivanovich, a Russian emigrant living in Berlin, was a modest, meek bachelor with smart and kind eyes. Once, at a charity ball arranged by emigrants from Russia, he won a ticket for a pleasure trip. He did not want to go anywhere, but failed to sell a ticket.
At the station, he saw his companions. The leader chosen by society was a tall blond with a huge backpack. The group consisted of four women and as many men. One of the men named Scar started a conversation about the merits of the tour. As they later learned, it was a special heater from the society of haunting.
The train housed in an empty third-class trailer. Everybody was given music notes with verses that had to be sung by the choir. Vasily Ivanovich failed to evade. Everyone was asked to give out their provisions in order to divide it equally. Cucumber Vasily Ivanovich was recognized as inedible and thrown out of the window. He was forced to play a ramp, slowed down, questioned, checked, and he dealt with him good-naturedly, then with a threat.
We spent the night in a crooked tavern. The next day, from early morning until five in the afternoon we walked along the highway, and then a green road through a dense forest. Vasily Ivanovich, as the least loaded, was given to carry huge round bread under his arm.
Then they had fun: women chose benches and laid down on them, and men hid under the benches. Then it turned out who was paired with whom. Three times Vasily Ivanovich was left without a couple. We spent the night on straw mattresses in a barn and early on foot again went on foot.
After the halt, after an hour of walking, Vasily Ivanovich suddenly discovered the happiness he dreamed about. It was a clear blue lake, which reflected a large cloud. On that side, on a green hill, stood an old black tower.
Vasily Ivanovich went ashore and went out to the inn, where there was a room for visitors. There was nothing special about it, but a lake with a cloud and a tower was clearly visible from the window.
Vasily Ivanovich in one sunny second realized that here, in this room with a lovely view to the window, the life would finally go as he always wished.
He decided not to return to Berlin and settle here. But the leader of the group categorically forbade Vasily Ivanovich to stay. They twisted it, clamped it and dragged it to the train. He was beaten in the carriage, quite sophisticated. It was a lot of fun.
On his return to Berlin, Vasily Ivanovich visited his supervisor and asked him to be released. "I let him go, of course."
